Big Brass Bed

Big Brass Bed (ON) is a four-year-old chestnut mare purchased by As One in November 2023. A daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist and the Smart Strike mare Precision Farming, Big Brass Bed’s breeding provides a good balance of speed and stamina.

Our newest member of the As One stable started her racing career for her prior owner under trainer Chad Brown in April 2023 with a solid third pace finish in a maiden special weight race at Gulfstream Park. From there, she raced again in May and earned her first win in impressive style at Monmouth Park. Following that effort, she finished a competitive fourth in June at Belmont Park and sixth in the $500,000 Woodbine Oaks in July. She was then given some time off to continue to develop and ready herself for more racing.

Following As One’s purchase of Big Brass Bed, she has been under the training of Brendan Walsh in Florida preparing for her 2024 campaign, starting with her appearance at Gulfstream Park on Pegasus Day.

Last Race

Following up on her second place finish in July, Big Brass Bed looked to take a step forward and find the winners circle. That effort came on the turf course at Colonial Downs on Saturday, August 24.

Facing a field of seven other fillies and mares in the 1 1/16 mile race, Big Brass Bed broke cleanly and settled into a nice rhythm in third place along the backstretch. Jockey Jorge Ruiz had her traveling comfortably and started to make a move toward the leaders as they entered the stretch.

Big Brass Bed was on the inside after breaking from the No. 1 post position and was boxed in as she tried to close. Two horses sat in front of her and a third flanked her to the outside. Just when it looked like she wouldn’t get her chance, a small hole opened up. Big Brass Bed accelerated through and caught the leader at the wire to win by a nose in a thrilling finish that is definitely worth a watch on the replay. 

With Big Brass Bed’s win, every As One horse the partnership has owned has now won a race under the As One banner.
